Mexico-based carrier Volaris Airlines offer nonstop daily direct flights between Chicago Midway International Airport and Guadalajara International Airport on an Airbus 319 aircraft with seating for 144 passengers.
The daily flight to Guadalajara will depart MDW at 3:05 p.m. and arrive GDL at 7:35 p.m. The flight from GDL will depart at 9:45 a.m. and arrive to MDW Chicago Midway at 1:35 p.m. Volaris will offer connections from Guadalajara to Mexico City and Toluca.
Chicago is the fourth U.S. destination for Volaris Airlines. The carrier also serves Los Angeles, San Jose and Oakland. With the addition of Volaris, Midway now has six passenger airlines providing service to 53 cities.
“Midway is the nation’s premier airport for convenient, point-to-point, cheap fare service. Volaris’s emphasis on customer service, affordability and convenience fits in perfectly at our airport.”
The Guadalajara-Chicago market is currently only served by Aeromexico, which according to Innovata operates five weekly Boeing 737 flights from Guadalajara to Chicago's O'Hare airport. Chicago O'Hare was also a major market for Mexicana, which suspended operations in August.
Chicago Midway is a major base for Volaris' US partner Southwest Airlines. The two carriers on 1 December implemented a codeshare-like connecting product at Volaris' three existing US gateways - San Jose, Los Angeles and Oakland.

Italy cargo scheduled flights Atlanta to Milan
Italy-based cargo airlines Cargoitalia started scheduled flights to Atlanta on February 3. The two weekly flights between Atlanta and Milan will create about 10 jobs and will have an estimated $15 million economic impact on metro Atlanta.
Cargoitalia is a world-class, all-cargo airline “Atlanta is one of the most important air cargo gateways in the U.S.A., and we consider it a must-have city in our growing network,” said Roberto Gilardoni, Cargoitalia commercial director. “The facilities [in Atlanta] are impressive, and we greatly appreciate the help and support they have shown to their newest guest airline. We have great optimism about our potential in this market.”
Cargoitalia operates a fleet of MD-11 SF all-cargo aircraft based at Milan’s Malpensa Airport. It offers service to destinations in North America, the Middle East and the Far East.
“Cargoitalia’s decision to begin air cargo service to Atlanta furthers our position as one of the world’s premier logistics hubs and centers for supply chain management,” said Bob Pertierra, vice president of supply chain development for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “This new trade lane enables companies in Atlanta and the Southeastern United States to gain access to even more customers and markets in Italy and Europe.”
Air cargo continues to grow at Hartsfield-Jackson. According to Airport data, air cargo
increased by more than 18 percent from 2009 to 2010.
Cargoitalia is the 15th all-cargo airline to serve Hartsfield-Jackson and the region. Other cargo carriers to begin operating in Atlanta recently are Asiana Airlines, which began cargo service in September 2010, and Singapore Airlines Cargo, which began scheduled service to Atlanta in September 2009.
Hartsfield-Jackson offers a geographically desirable location for cargo carriers and freight forwarders that want to expand their global networks with lower operating costs. Companies readily can connect with air, road and railway transportation systems in Atlanta.
Hartsfield-Jackson has received several awards for its cargo operations, including Air Cargo Week’s Airport of the Year (2010, 2009) and Air Cargo World magazine’s Award of Excellence for the best North American cargo operations in its category (2010, 2009).

Southwest MSP to Phoenix $99 one-way fare
Southwest Airlines offer twice daily non-stop flights between Minneapolis and Phoenix. The airline already provides service between MSP and Chicago, Denver and St. Louis. The carrier is offering rates as low as $99 one-way.
Southwest Airlines daily services to MSP competing with the following carriers
Delta Air Lines 41x Weekly
US Airways 28x weekly
Sun Country 4x weekly
To Boston it will operate a daily service effective September 7th and will compete with
Jetblue 7x weekly
US Airways 21x weekly
“Southwest Airlines has only operated at MSP since March 2009, beginning with service to Chicago, but already it has added or announced service to three additional cities as well as increased flight frequencies,” Hamiel said. “At a time when airlines have been reducing operations across the nation due to economic pressures, it is gratifying to see Southwest continue to grow its presence in Minnesota.”

Guaranteed Parking lots at Minneapolis airport
With more than 22,000 parking spaces, there is virtually always a place to park at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. However, during busy travel times, particularly mid-week, travelers haven’t always been able to find space available at the terminal of their choice – until now.
The MSP Airports has launched a new program that guarantees its members an open parking lots at the MSP terminal of their choice, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, no matter how busy the airport is.
Members pay $95 per month, a one-time $20 activation fee, and the regular hourly and daily Terminal-1 Lindbergh e-Park rate for the time they are parked in an airport ramp. Charges are automatically billed to the member’s account. Members can check their account and print a receipt online.
“eParkElite is geared toward busy frequent travelers who place a premium on time-saving and convenience,” said Jeff Hamiel, executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which owns and operates MSP International Airport. “By becoming an eParkElite member, you gain assurance you will always find a spot available at the terminal your flight departs.”
Members of eParkElite receive a small transmitter to place on the dashboard of their vehicle. When they approach the designated parking area at either terminal, the parking ramp gate arm raises automatically, marking the time they entered the parking facility and providing access to waiting parking spaces. Parking capacity is managed to ensure there are always sufficient spaces for eParkElite members at both terminals. The transmitter automatically raises the gate at exit and marks the time they left for electronic billing purposes.
An added benefit is that, if members so choose, they may share their eParkElite transmitter with others on days they aren’t using it. For many companies, that means multiple employees can benefit from a single eParkElite membership provided only one person is traveling at a time.
People interested in becoming an eParkElite member can find additional information as well as an application on MSP’s web site, www.mspairport.com, or by calling 612-726-5650 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

msp airport mobile app for iPhone Android devices
MSP’s new mobile application, goHow Airport, is available for free download onto iPhone and BlackBerry devices.the app is scheduled to be available for Android devices as well.
“These new technologies enable us to personalize each traveler’s airport experience by presenting information in ways relevant to that person’s individual interests and needs,” said Jeff Hamiel, executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission.
“The mobile app and touch-screen directories map the way to your gate, show what shops, restaurants and services are in the vicinity, tell you how many minutes away each location is, and offer search or filter functions so you can find food items, merchandise or services of particular interest to you,” Hamiel said. “Our goal is to provide one of the best airport experiences in the nation by placing the travel information you need right at your fingertips.”
Both devices include:
• Information on airport shops, restaurants, services and other amenities
• Flight information
• Hotel and ground transportation options
• Menus for MSP’s full-service restaurants
• Airport maps and walk times to chosen points of interest
• Airport news, deals and events
• Weather information
• Airline information for scheduling or rebooking a flight
• Search or filtering features
The goHow Airport mobile app even allows travelers to rate airport shops, restaurants and services – and to see how others have rated them. Unlike other travel apps, goHow Airport’s data about Minneapolis-St. Paul International – including real-time parking information -- is provided and managed directly by the Metropolitan Airports Commission, helping ensure it is the most accurate and up-to-date available.
goHow Airport offers information on dozens of other airports around the world as well. Using this one application, travelers can plan their travels from their originating airport, through their connecting airport, and on to their destination. Through the device, you can get travel alerts regarding changes in your flight or gate as well as regarding circumstances at the airport that could impact your trip.
MSP’s goHow Airport feature is available through an agreement between the Metropolitan Airports Commission and Simat, Helliesen & Eichner, Inc. (SH&E), a leading aviation consulting firm with locations in Boston, Chicago, New York City and London. SH&E has partnered with Boston-based SapientNitro, an interactive marketing, creative design and technology services agency, to create the goHow Airport mobile app.
The airport’s new interactive kiosks were developed with the services of Alive Promo, a Minneapolis-based company focusing on digital signage solutions.
new Digital Concierge program features two four-sided digital touch screen directories located at either end of the MSP airport mall in Terminal 1-Lindbergh. The program can be expanded in the future to provide additional interactive directories in other areas of the airport.
