The inaugural celebration of the flight on July 8, began with a water arch salute as the arriving flight pulled up to Terminal D. While customers waited to depart from Houston to Monterrey,"Houston and Monterrey share a very special bond," says Ian Wadsworth, chief commercial officer for the Houston Airport System. "The two cities are close to one another geographically but more importantly, they both serve as strong economic engines for their particular regions. That's why we're so thrilled to see an expansion of the air service between the two cities.
“VivaAerobus is delighted to join these two important cities and to finally bring really low fares, competition and choice to consumers,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, commercial director for VivaAerobus. “We know we are generating an important benefit mainly to passengers that wish to travel at a low cost. Flying to and from these destinations used to be extremely expensive, but today, thanks to VivaAerobus, expensive fares are over.”
Monterrey is the third most populous city in Mexico, with a population of more than 3.5 million people. Like Houston, Monterrey serves a vital role as an industrial and business center for its nation’s economy, especially in the areas of steel and cement manufacturing. Over the past 10 years, the Monterrey metropolitan area has experienced amazing growth, working its way from a population of 2.5 million to almost 4 million.
